SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — A new state voter registration law may be discouraging military members from voting. Amber Hobert – the head of a mail forwarding business – told Minnehaha County Commissioners that it’s related to people who spend most of their time out of state, but have registered to vote in South Dakota. Hobert says she’s concerned that the election integrity law passed by the legislature is preventing those voters from voting in state and local elections.
She also says the impact is affecting members of the military, including a family member. “This is someone who’s in the military, serving, and doesn’t want the hassle of having to prove that out (residency). I think that is very, very sad, and very, very disappointing that somebody who has many family members in the military that they would be treated that way.” Election integrity advocates pushed for the new law, saying out-of-state voters were interfering with local and state election results.
