WASHINGTON, Sept 23 (Reuters) – Supporters of legislation to make permanent a ban on Chinese vehicles are aiming to win fast-track approval by the U.S. Senate this week as President Donald Trump meets with China’s President Xi Jinping.
Republican Senator Bernie Moreno, one of the two main authors of the proposed legislative ban, intends to ask for unanimous consent to approve the bill, according to a notice sent to Democratic senators on Wednesday.
Last week, automakers and other industry groups urged Trump “to maintain policies that keep the door firmly shut to Chinese automakers seeking to sell, import or manufacture vehicles inside the U.S.”
